The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Bellevue Comets Friday in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls fell to the sixth ranked Comets 47-34. Mid-Prairie started quickly, opening the game on a 10-1 run and leading 12-5 after one quarter and 21-17 at half. The Comets took control of the game out of half with a 16-5 run that lasted the entire third quarter and put the game away outscoring the Hawks 14-8 in the fourth. Bellevue outrebounded Mid-Prairie 31-22 and turned the Golden Hawks over 18 times. Teresa Paulsen put together a double double for Bellevue with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ka’Lynn DeShaw added 12 points. Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 19 points and nine rebounds. Bellevue improves to 15-1 with the win, Mid-Prairie falls to 8-8.

In the night cap, the Golden Hawk boys collected a 61-51 victory. Things were tight early, with Bellevue leading 14-11 after the first quarter, and the contest tied at 24 at half. In the second half, Mid-Prairie methodically pulled away, outscoring the Comets 37-27 in the final 16 minutes for the win. Carter Harmsen went double double for the Hawks putting up 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Bean and Aidan Rath both got to double figures with 11 points. Colby Sieverding led Bellevue with 23 points. Mid-Prairie is now 9-5 while Bellevue falls to 6-12. The Golden Hawks boys and girls will both be in action Monday when they host the Washington Demons in a doubleheader.
