Sigourney High School was the site of a South Iowa Cedar League rivalry doubleheader as the Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams paid the Savages a visit on Senior Night, with each school claiming a victory. The Sigourney girls scored a 59-20 win over their rivals from Keota. Things were tight early with the Savages leading 11-6 after one, but Sigourney outscored the Eagles 48-15 the rest of the way, including 27-5 in the second half to run away with the win. Kaylee Weber led the Savages with 22 points. The Sigourney senior hit the 1,000 point milestone for her career with the performance. Carly Goodwin scored 12. The win gives Sigourney the east division championship of the South Iowa Cedar League for the fifth straight season as they run their record to 16-3, Keota falls to 2-13.
The No. 11 in class 1A Keota boys made it a split, winning the nightcap 57-36. The Eagles took control early, starting the game on a 15-4 run that lasted the entire first quarter. They led 28-12 at half. Sigourney was unable to cut into the lead with Keota winning the second half 29-24. The Eagles knocked down 10 three pointers in the win, pulled down 37 rebounds, dished out 18 assists and had 12 steals. The reigning KCII JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Luke Hammen led the way for Keota with 17 points. Sam Sieren added 13. With the win, the Eagles are now 16-1 as Sigourney falls to 8-10.
