Winter weather has caused administration at area schools to get creative in their scheduling to get games made up. One example of that is the Mid-Prairie basketball program on Saturday, where the girls will travel to Iowa City Regina while the boys will be in West Liberty. The Golden Hawk girls are 9-9 on the season and 8-8 in the River Valley Conference after a 43-38 loss to Wilton on Tuesday. In that game, Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and Myah Lugar’s 13 points. On the season, Nonnenmann leads the Hawks with 14 points and seven rebounds per game. Amara Jones has the team lead with four assists and three steals per night.
Iowa City Regina is 8-5 overall and 8-4 in the River Valley Conference. The Regals beat Northeast Goose Lake on Monday 53-46 with Annie Gahan putting up 20 points. On the season, Regina is led by Gahan at 15 points and three steals per outing. Lily Simpson pulls down seven boards a game and Grace Gaarde dishes out four assists. These two teams met in Wellman in December with Regina taking a 49-43 win. Action starts tonight at 7:30 at Iowa City Regina High School.
The Mid-Prairie boys enter play with a mark of 10-6 overall, 10-4 in the RVC, second in the south. The Hawks were a winner at Wilton Tuesday 61-50 with Carter Harmsen scoring 19 and Ethan Kos 16. For the season the Comets are led by Caleb Wulf at 17 points, eight boards, three steals and two assists per night.
