Washington and Columbus Community wrestling teams traveled to Davenport Assumption on Saturday for a Class 2A sectional to start up the postseason and four area grapplers advanced to districts.
Demon senior Ayden Frazer was not going to be denied a top two finish, as the 182 pounder finished second. He experienced an 8-5 decision setback loss to start the day, but battled back for a 7-0 win and 13-1 major to claim a runner-up spot. The Wildcats had three individuals advance in Lane Scorpil, Chance Malone, and Ethan Palmer. Scorpil didn’t have to break a sweat at 113 lbs with two byes and a forfeit win in the championship. Malone had a pair of pins at 285 lbs that totaled just 1:19 and Palmer was pinned in 12 seconds at 195 lbs, but created a fall as well in 3:06 to place second. The four wrestlers will compete for a spot at state on Saturday in Mount Pleasant.
Columbus finished fourth in the team standings with 117 points and Washington was sixth with 70. Assumption won it all with 264 points. Third place Wildcat performances included Ty Scorpil at 106 lbs and Kai Malone at 220 lbs. Third place Demons were Jacob Miller at 138 lbs, Chase Greiner at 160 lbs, and Curtis Stender at 195 lbs.
