Applications are still being accepted for those seeking financial assistance to purchase a home in Washington County.

The East Central Iowa Council of Governments is offering five homebuyer assistance program loans of up to $24,999 in Washington County. ECICOG Planner/Grant Specialist Paula Mitchell says these funds come from the Community Development Block Grant program, “This is a new program, every year the Iowa Economic Development Authority makes CDBG dollars available and communities can apply. And Washington County applied in the summer round and was awarded funding for this program.”

These are receding forgivable loans that can go toward someone’s down payment, property inspection, or closing costs. Eligible homes include single family properties, condominiums, existing and newly constructed homes, and those outside a 100-year floodplain.
