The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team collected it’s 12th victory of the season in convincing fashion Monday, beating West Liberty for the second time in 48 hours 59-25. The Hawks would not trail on the night, opening the game on a 12-0 run, they led 17-4 after one quarter. They would use a 19-4 second quarter run to stretch the lead to 36-10 by halftime. In the second half, the lead would grow to as many as 34 in favor of the Hawks. Mid-Prairie was dominant on both sides of the ball, putting West Liberty through a six minute first half scoring drought, an 11 minute drought from the floor and a 22 minute drought from two point range. Mid-Prairie outrebounded the Comets by 18 and forced 15 turnovers. After the game, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about his team’s performance. “Getting guys to buy into that defensive end is important and realizing that when things are going well at that end they become easier on the offensive end. That was evident tonight. I am very pleased. We didn’t like how we started the game against them on Saturday so we knew that we needed to jump on them right away. Start fast was written on the white board in the locker room and we did that. Carter Harmsen has another 17 points for us. He also had three assists, Will Cavanagh had three assists, Jack Pennington had three. Guys were sharing the ball, we had 15 total assists. Alex Bean went for 11 points, Aidan Rath did a great job inside putting up 12 points. Our bench guys were also great, Ethan Kos, Cam Pickard, Luke Boyse and Justis Jones.”
Carter Harmsen led a trio of Golden Hawks in double figures with 17 points, Aidan Rath finished with 12 and Alex Bean 11. Mid-Prairie is now 12-6 on the year, the first time they have won 12 in a season since 2010. They are back on the floor Tuesday when they host Durant.
