The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams were beaten in both ends of a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader Monday by Lynnville-Sully. The No. 15 Sigourney girls fell by a 52-34 score. It was all Hawks early as they clamped down defensively, giving up just seven points to the Savages in the first half as they raced out to a 25-7 lead at half. Sigourney got on track offensively in the second half with 27 points, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Lynnville-Sully outrebounded Sigourney by eight and forced 14 turnovers. Korinne Jansen led the Hawks with 13 points. Carly Goodwin got to double figures for Sigourney with 12 points. With the loss, the Savages are now 16-5 this year, the Hawks improve to 16-3.

The Sigourney boys were beaten in a tight 52-48 game. The Savages led 14-11 after one quarter, but the Hawks put together a 17-9 run that lasted the entire second quarter to take a 28-23 lead into the half. The Savages came out of the locker room with a big offensive third quarter, scoring 20, and hung around, down just 46-43 going to the fourth. Both teams dug in defensively down the stretch, with the two squads combining for just 11 points in the final quarter as the Hawks held off the Savages for the win. Sigourney had 37 rebounds and nine assists in the loss. Josh Mohr finished with 18 points and Mason Moore with 10. Sigourney is now 8-12 on the year, Lynnville-Sully is 12-7.
