This week the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team traveled to Camanche and returned with a 56-34 River Valley Conference win. The Hawks started fast, with a 17-6 run that spanned the entire first quarter, they led 29-18 at half. Out of the locker room, another big run, this time 16-6 that lasted the entire third quarter stretched the lead to 45-24 and Mid-Prairie would not look back. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Danny Hershberger talked about the win. “It was a long bus trip with the distance and the weather, but we were able to come out and play well even after that. Amara Jones came out and was aggressive offensively. She’s a good shooter and we have been talking with her about getting more shots up. Maddie Nonnenmann and Phelan Hostetler continued to play well offensively. We recognized we had a height advantage inside that we wanted to use so we got the ball to them and they did a great job scoring it.”

The Golden Hawks shot 50% from the floor, had 15 steals and 10 assists. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie with 16 points, Phelan Hostetler and Amara Jones each had 10. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 10-10 on the year. They host top five West Branch Thursday.
