Demon fans, stop me if you’ve heard this before. Washington against Keokuk for the Southeast Conference crown. For the second straight year the Demon boys basketball team will host the Chiefs tonight with the conference title on the line.
Last year, Washington upended Keokuk 73-70 in overtime to claim their first SEC championship in 13 years. The Demons (13-5) will try to run it back this evening against a Keokuk (12-6) squad that wants payback from 2020 and a 46-42 Washington win earlier this season. Anthony Potratz is the engine that goes for Keokuk with 15.3 points and 5.6 boards a game. Demon head coach Collin Stark is excited for the opportunity that awaits. “Winning conference is that first goal we had this year. We have a target on our back and we have handled it well. A few games slipped away from us, but we control our destiny and this is the spot you want to be at the end of the year.” The last three matchups have been decided by four points or less.
This is the regular season finale for a Demon girls team that sits at 2-17. They will have to provide more offense against the Chiefs than the first meeting on January 15th when they lost 60-25. Keokuk is 8-7 and Abby Wolter is the star with 18.8 points a night. The Chiefs have won the last 13 meetings between these programs.
The girls’ game gets started at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow in Washington. Listen to all of the action on FM 106.1 KCII.
