The Washington School District is working to inform its residents about the four options proposed to address the middle school building.

Superintendent Willie Stone announced at the school board meeting this week that SVPA Architects and construction manager Carl A. Nelson are working with the district to create videos explaining each of the options: renovate the current building, partial renovation of the current building and demolition and rebuilding part of the building, building an addition to the high school and renovating the “old junior high wing” of that building, or constructing an entirely new building at a new location. Stone says those videos will be distributed to the public with a survey for them to give their feedback, “Our goal is to try to isolate down to two choices and then from those two choices start having public meetings to get an idea of okay, this is the one that we think as a community is going to be best for our kids and we want to move forward with it because our kids need it.”

No matter which choice the board expects to hold a bond issue for it with an estimate of $20-30 million for the project. Stone anticipates the board will make a final decision on which option to pursue sometime around May.
