Two candidates are running for the Washington City Council Ward 3 seat in a special election March 2nd.

Haleigh Brockman is running against Illa Earnest to represent the southeast portion of the city in a term that ends December 2023. Brockman graduated from Washington High School and later studied at Ellsworth Community College and graduated from Iowa State University. She now works as the office manager for KCII. Brockman serves as the treasurer of the Washington for Justice group, and she became interested in local government during the summer of 2020.

Brockman’s motivation to run for city council is to give greater inclusion for the city’s diverse population and focus on antiracism, “I am by no means an expert at any of those things but I’m continually learning about them and advocating for them. I think what the city council has done with the police advisory committee is really great and I can’t wait to see how that continues.”

You can hear more from Brockman during today’s Halcyon House Washington Page on air and at kciiradio.com. Absentee voting is available weekdays from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the county auditor’s office and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. this Friday and February 26th.
