It’s a highly anticipated playoff matchup tonight in Winfield when the Lady Wolves of Winfield-Mt. Union entertain the Burlington Notre Dame Nikes in the regional semifinal round of the class 1A tournament. WMU comes into the contest with a perfect record of 18-0 after a 55-31 win over Calamus-Wheatland in the quarterfinals. The Superconference North Champion Wolves were led by 14 points from Bradie Buffington. WMU is ranked No. 9 in the final class 1A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. On the season they are led by Buffington’s nine points per game. Farrah Nelson has a team best eight boards per contest. Kyndal Townsley leads the Wolves with three assists and two steals per night.
Burlington Notre Dame is 18-1 overall, they finished 12-1 and second in the south division of the Superconference. The Nikes beat WACO in the quarterfinal round of the tournament Tuesday 72-30. On the season, Notre Dame is led by Megan Harrell at 16 points per game. Katy Stephens and Gabby Deery lead the Nikes with seven rebounds each per night while Karli Artman posts five steals and four assists per game. These two teams met a season ago in the quarterfinals of the playoffs with the Nikes winning 71-25. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
