The No. 9 ranked Keota Eagle boys basketball team scored a class 1A district semifinal win Thursday at home against North Mahaska 64-51. These two teams played a tight regular season game that the Eagles won by a single point, but in the playoffs Keota used a hot start to build an early lead. Opening the game on a 16-7 run that lasted the entire first quarter. Keota would turn that into a 32-21 lead going into the half.
North Mahaska won the third quarter, trimming two points off the lead to pull within 45-36 going to the fourth but Keota would let them get no closer down the stretch in securing the win. The Eagles shot 50% from the floor for the night, pulled down 26 rebounds and dished out 14 assists. Luke Hammen posted a team high 21 points, including four made three point goals, Brady Duwa and Carson Sprouse each scored 11. With the win, the Eagles are 20-2 on the year, North Mahaska ends the season 16-5. Keota will play No. 6 Montezuma at Williamsburg High School Tuesday at 7p.m. The Braves beat the Eagles earlier this year 80-46.
