The annual chili supper to benefit the Hillcrest Academy senior class is a drive-through event tonight at the school.
Hillcrest Math Teacher and Senior Class Advisor Lynn Yoder says the service will be provided by senior Ravens students from 4:30 to 7:00 pm, “The seniors will help make the potato salad, they’ll help make the cheese salad sandwiches, they’ll help with the setup and the serving that night and the cleanup, they’ll help make the soups, so they’ll be involved from beginning to end.”
Yoder says the menu includes your choice of chili or Mexican soup, pozole, plus potato salad, vegetables, their famous cheese salad sandwiches, and a slice of pie, with all food donated by parents of senior students. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $5 for children ages four to 12, and three and under eat for free. She says in recent years they’ve served an average of 600 people each supper.
Yoder says proceeds go towards the senior class trip which they would normally take place at the beginning of the school year. Because of COVID-19, their trip to Washington, D.C. is postponed to mid-March, but she says it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to go.
