Day three of the Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament saw a pair of KCII area class 1A grapplers stand on the podium.
Highland’s Easton Schlabaugh and Bryce Thompson both placed fifth in their respective weight classes after splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. Schlabaugh opened Saturday with a consolation semifinal at 106 lbs against Don Bosco’s Caleb Coffin and lost by fall in 3:53, but turned around for a 4-2 decision victory over Nashua-Plainfield’s Kendrick Huck for the fifth place finish. Thompson at 113 lbs lost a 6-4 decision to Dawson Schmit of Wapsie Valley, but closed his high school career with an 8-2 win over Edgewood-Colesburg’s Dawson Bergan. The tournament started with five area Class 1A participants and 11 altogether with four bringing home medals.
