The No. 9 ranked Winfield-Mt. Union girls basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season Friday at home in the semifinal round of the class 1A regional tournament, falling to No. 10 Burlington Notre Dame 61-33. Fast starts to each half propelled the Nikes in their win. Notre Dame opened the contest with a 16-5 run that spanned the entire first quarter. WMU chipped away at the lead in the second frame, trailing 30-21 at the half. The Nikes won the third quarter 23-8, including scoring the first 17 points of the second half to stretch their lead to 24 going to the fourth, putting the contest out of reach.

The Wolves shot 33% from the floor in the game, pulled down 30 rebounds and committed 18 turnovers. Farrah Nelson and Jami Wilkerson led WMU with eight points each. With the loss, the Lady Wolves end their season at 18-1, with a North Division Superconference championship, and say goodbye to seniors Wilkerson, Nelson, Kayla Edwards, Kyndal Townsley, Jenna Buffington, Abbie Cooley, and Madie Anderson.
