Highland school officials are weighing what’s next after conducting a district-wide needs assessment survey.

Superintendent Ken Crawford says at the school board work session Monday night he presented areas of emphasis identified by the administrative team, “We felt there were three things the community and students and the staff need more communication on, Iowa CORE (standards), how they can have more voice in the district, and show how our kids are learning at a high level in our district.”

Crawfod says they also want input from school board members before deciding their final plan moving forward and how the goals of the survey will be implemented. He says part of that implementation could be increased use of social media, “When we talk about using social media and getting out on Twitter and Facebook, there’s also Instagram and Tik Tok and all sorts of things we may need to explore ways to better engage with our community and students in a fun way.”

One form of communication being utilized by Crawford this week is a flyer promoting the Tuesday, March 2nd vote for Highland taxpayers on the district’s physical plant and equipment (PPEL) levy. KCII will talk with Crawford about PPEL during Thursday’s “In Touch with Southeast Iowa” program.
