Though the Washington Iowa Betterment Foundation cancelled their annual pub crawl fundraiser due to the pandemic this March, they’re getting some help from a new restaurant having its grand opening in town this week.

The public can pick up a coupon at the Washington Chamber of Commerce office to make a $2 donation to the foundation in exchange for a sub sandwich from Jersey Mike’s, located at 120 East Jefferson Street. The promotion lasts through this Sunday, and Foundation Treasurer Janelle Johnson says the fundraiser bucket at the restaurant has already been filling up since the business’ opening Wednesday, “And then at the end of the month so the last Wednesday of the month, March 31st, all of the proceeds that Jersey Mike’s makes that day goes to the betterment foundation. So we are super excited about that, we hope that folks head out especially on the last Wednesday of the month in March and support Jersey Mike’s and support Washington, Iowa Betterment Foundation. Just a great way to kind of come into town with a bang and say, ‘Hey, we’re here to support the community.’ And we are just so thankful for their support and for choosing us.”

The foundation financially supports projects that physically improve, beautify, and enhance the city of Washington, with over $375,000 contributed to over 200 projects in the last 20 years. The foundation is also hosting a “Baskets of Betterment” raffle fundraiser in place of their pub crawl this year, and you can find more information here.
