The Iowa Department of Public Health announced that individuals 64 years old and younger with medical conditions that may be at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 will be eligible to receive a vaccine. Washington County Public Health announced Friday that they will be starting these vaccinations while they finish tiers two through five of Phase 1B as well as the 65 years and older population. Tiers two through five of Phase 1B include food, agriculture, distribution, and manufacturing workers who work or live in congregate settings that don’t allow for social distancing; those with disabilities living in home settings and their direct care staff; staff of and individuals living in congregate settings excluding college dormitories; government officials at the state capitol; hospital, long-term care, and child safety inspectors; and correctional facility staff and those incarcerated.

County public health states that they will not be getting additional vaccines allocated to them each week at this time, but there should be an increase in vaccines going to retail pharmacies. They will begin taking names for Phase 1C Monday, and ask that if you find a vaccination elsewhere, to please let them know so they can focus their resources on others.
