A committee has been formed to start the process of building a new community center in Riverside.
City Administrator Christine Yancey says the 23-member committee has had their initial meeting with a goal to recommend at least two floor plans to the city council, “Originally they had looked at sometime in June having the final proposal to council, but we just want to make sure that we have an opportunity to get enough community feedback on what’s going into the facility, plus, making sure we have researched all the grants that might be available, so it may take longer than that because we want to make sure we have the funding available before we start the project.”
Yancey says the city wants to avoid having a bond issue to help pay for the community center, and they have a half million dollars set aside as seed money for the project. She says the tentative location for the center would be on city-owned property adjacent to Highland Elementary School.
