With a league title and an undefeated regular season on the resume, you know plenty of postseason accolades will follow and that was the case for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team with six players named to all conference teams.
The North Division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference had nine first team players and four of them were Wolves including Bradie Buffington, Farrah Nelson, Kyndal Townsley, and Jobey Malone. Sharing the rock was no problem for WMU with seven players recording at least five points a game, but no one averaged double figures. Buffington led the group with 8.6 points a night, hauled in 4.8 rebounds, and her 1.5 blocks a game ranked third in the division. Nelson brought in a team best 7.6 boards and chipped in with 8.5 points. Townsley averaged 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and dished out 2.4 assists a contest while Malone added 6.4 points and 4.6 boards.
Jami Wilkerson was named to the second team with the senior recording a team-best 53 assists and 42 steals. Jenna Buffington rounded out the selections being named honorable mention. The senior missed all of last year due to injury, but returned to bring in 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game this winter. Also a part of the postseason honors was head coach Mitch Wachs being selected as Coach of the Year in the division.
WMU finished the dominant season with an 18-1 record and a class 1A regional semifinal berth.
