A barn near Ainsworth was destroyed by a fire Tuesday night.

Ainsworth Fire and QRS Chief Waylon Schultz says they were called by the property owner to 2984 Highway 92 at about 11 p.m. to discover the barn fully engulfed in flames. He says the structure and its contents, mostly shop tools and other miscellaneous items, are total losses, but there were no animals inside. No damage estimate was available and Schultz says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Washington, Riverside and Crawfordsville fire departments, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. Schultz says a combined 45 firefighters fought the blaze using approximately 12,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
