The City of Washington may be installing an electric car charging station.

City Administrator Brent Hinson informed the city council at their most recent meeting that the city’s hotel/motel tax committee is working to apply for a grant application to purchase the charging station from the state, “Basically it would be card access so the user’s going to pay for the electricity. We think this is a great partnership together with Dodici Night Suites by putting this downtown, it’s going to be in a very visible location.”

City Clerk Sally Hart added that the station would be put on an online database to notify those who own electric vehicles of its location. Hinson mentions that there may be future partnerships with businesses like Fareway to install additional charging stations. He says this will likely be a 90% matching grant for the hotel/motel tax committee to provide $1,500. The $15,000 maximum given for the grant would cover all the costs of installing the station, as well as a five-year software guarantee plan. The City of Fairfield received the same grant this past year.
