A former Washington Demon standout on the mat made noise at the national level last week in Coralville. Tristin Westphal, a sophomore at Coe College, finished eighth at 174lbs in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III National Championship Meet at the Xtream Arena.
The Kohawk entered the tournament seeded 11th, and posted an impressive major decision win 13-0 in his first match against Bryce Karban of Concordia, Wisconsin. In the second round he was beaten by the six seed Alexander Skaare of Concordia, Minnesota.
Once in the consolation bracket, Westphal started rolling, beating Joseph Vondrasek of Alma by fall, picking up a tech fall 15-0 win over Tyler Bailey of New Jersey City University, and a 7-4 victory over John Marsh of Cornell.
