Dynamic Wapello guard Maddux Griffin was recognized this week for his play on the court this winter by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. The organization named Griffin to the second team All-State for class 1A.
Griffin, a junior at Wapello, finished with 352 points this season, averaging 17.6 points per game, best in the Superconference North Division. He shot 56% from the floor, best in the Superconference for those who attempted at least 200 shots. His 133 made field goals were most in the Superconference.
His 163 assists were fifth most in Iowa in class 1A, breaking down to 8.2 per game, second in 1A. His 84 steals were ninth most in 1A, with his per game average of four takeaways landing seventh in Iowa. He committed just 40 turnovers all season, two per game. He finished with 142 rebounds, sixth in the Superconference North.
Griffin was joined on the second team in 1A by Blaise Porter of New London, Carson Michels of Marquette, Cole Watts of Montezuma, Keaten Bonderson of Gehlen Catholic, Manny Hammonds of Grand View Christian, Tate Haughenbury of North Linn and Taurice Grant of Meskwaki.
