The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have released their guidelines related to COVID-19 for the upcoming soccer season. The state is still suggesting following social distancing guidelines of six feet, having athletes train in smaller pods as opposed to full teams, sanitizing hands and not sharing water bottles, food or snacks.

Other considerations for this year include, limited attendees for the pregame conference, no handshakes, social distancing on the benches with masks encouraged, masks and gloves can be worn during play. Masks must be worn according to the governor’s mandate upon arrival at the venue. Coaches, officials and spectators are strongly encouraged to wear masks. Each event will follow the guidelines set forth by the local county department of public health for limiting spectators. A full list of guidelines is available at iahsaa.org.
