This past weekend a handful of Washington Water Sharks competed in the 2021 YMCA North Central Regional Championship Swim Meet at the Prairie Meadows Pool in Des Moines. 

Kaden Huber had a memorable meet placing first in four different events in the Boys 8 and Under division. Huber placed first in the 25 yard butterfly (17.14 seconds), 50 yard butterfly (41.42 seconds), 50 yard breaststroke (44.06 seconds), and the 100 yard individual medley (1:27). He also had a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:16) and fifth in the 25 yard freestyle (15.84 seconds). Other notable Water Shark finishes included Breenen Westphal third in the 200 yard breaststroke for the 13-14 years of age boys division (2:36) and he nabbed fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10). Ty Huber was eighth in the boys 10 and under division in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:37) and Teague Mayer was 30th in the 13-14 boys 50 yard freestyle (26.69 seconds). 

The YMCA Short Course National Championships originally scheduled for next week in Greensboro, North Carolina has been cancelled.
