Another COVID-19 death has been added in Washington County, bringing the total to 49 as of Wednesday morning.

The state dashboard shows for contiguous counties, Johnson has 77 deaths, Louisa has 48, Henry 37, Jefferson 35, Keokuk 30, and Iowa 23. Washington County has 2,596 positive tests and statewide the dashboard shows 375,189 positive tests and 5,683 deaths. The state has a 4.1% 14-day average positive test rate as of Wednesday morning, while Washington County Public Health updates Tuesday that Washington County’s rate is 3.3%. Washington County has one patient hospitalized and no long-term care outbreaks currently, while the state has one long-term care outbreak in Wapello County. County Public Health Administrator Danielle Pettit-Majewski notes that though cases are headed in the right direction, there could be an influx in coronavirus variants due to spring break travel. She urges residents to continue taking the virus seriously to keep the community safe.
