Washington Community School District residents are invited to learn more about the four proposed options for renovating or constructing a new middle school building and give their feedback.
Superintendent Willie Stone says the district has worked with SVPA Architects and construction manager Carl A. Nelson to create videos and pro and con lists to inform the public about the four options of how to move forward with addressing the century old facility, “The first option is if we do a full renovation of the middle school building, the second option is to renovate part of it which is the old gym and there’s six classrooms that go along with it and then reconstruct the rest of the building and make new. The third option is to add onto the current high school building. People will understand if you’re from here it’s the part of the current high school building that used to be the old junior high building. So it’s the older part of the new current high school building, we would add onto that and then we would look to renovate that part of that building also. And then the fourth option is building new.”
The public can view the videos and accompanying information on the district’s website, and then fill out a survey giving their input. Stone says they have received over 400 responses so far, and they hope to gather at least 1,000 before they narrow down their options to two this summer. You can find a link to the information and the survey here.
