Getting back on the pitch is on tap for the Washington boys’ soccer team this week when they kick off the 2021 campaign.
The Demons were last on the field in 2019 when they went 3-12 and like a lot of teams across the state have a lot of shoes to fill. Out of 21 varsity players, 13 of them have not seen any high school action, but head coach Sally Hart tells KCII Sports most of these athletes have plenty of experience through the Washington Area Soccer Program.
“Luckily, WASP was still able to have some soccer last summer and fall so it is not like it has been a full year since they have stepped on the field. They have done some indoor soccer as well and have been doing really well. Just to have practices twice a week has been big for experience and should help us this spring.”
Seniors that return include Zac Stout, Noah Suchan, Luciano Marcelino, Daniel Marcelino, Simeon Buie, Ayden Frazer, and Brandon Colonel. Fabian DeJesus is the lone junior with the rest of the roster being underclassmen.
The first look at the team is tonight when the Demons host Newton for a scrimmage that gets underway at 4:30 p.m at Washington High School.
