The search for a new head football coach at Washington High School will commence, as it was announced Monday that current head coach James Harris has accepted a job elsewhere.
The Demon head man that coined the mantra, “The Magic is in the Work” will take the same job at Iowa City Liberty this fall. The upstart program is now in its fourth year as a varsity football team and recently bumped up to Class 4A. Harris, a 2002 Washington alum, led the Demons to a 21-7 record in his three seasons at the helm including an undefeated regular season in 2020 and their first district title since 2013. Before taking over in 2018, Harris was an assistant for Washington the previous six seasons. He also doubled as a certified strength and conditioning coach for the school.
