The Wapello boys and girls track teams showed out in front of the home crowd Tuesday at the Wapello Relays. The Indians brought home the boys team title with their overall score of 183 points, beating second place Columbus with their 144 points. The Indians had seven championship events on the evening. Caden Thomas won the 200 with a time of 23.11 seconds and the 400 in 52.54 seconds. Rhett Smith was a two time individual champ taking the shot put title with a throw of 44′ 1.5” and the discus with a toss of 128 feet. Jake Gustison won the long jump competition soaring 19’10”. The other two titles for the Indians came in relays with the sprint medley team of Hector Zepeda, Griffin Mears, Tade Parsons and Maddox Griffin winning gold in 1:44.92 and the shuttle hurdle team of Zepeda, Mears, Elijah Belzer and Briar Thomas taking the title in 1:11.84.

En route to their second place team finish, the Columbus Wildcats won four event championships. The Wildcats went 1-2 in the 1600 with Isaac Acosta finishing first in 5:13.50 and Freddy Vergara second. The same tandem finished 1-2 in the 3200 with Vergara taking gold in 1:12.34 and Acosta second. The Wildcat 4×100 team of Jose Vazquez, Gerardo Orozco, Jeff Hoback and Kaden Amigon were winners in 49.34 seconds while the 4×800 team of Isaac Lagunas, Aden Martinez, Dyson Juhl and Christian Colby won the title in 9:56.41.

The Hillcrest Academy Ravens were sixth of six teams with 22 points. Aaron Hershberger won the lone title for the Hillcrest boys, taking the title in the 400 hurdles 1:00.99. He was also runner-up in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 100.

On the girls side, Wapello posted the highest area finish, taking third with 112 points. Louisa-Muscatine won the team title with 152.50 points. The Arrows had five championship events on the night with Emily Hemphill winning the 800 in 2:52.84, Claire Anderson taking the 3000 in 14:36.43 and Patricia Hank winning the high jump clearing 4’10”. In relay events for Wapello the 4×200 team of Ada Boysen, Lindsay Massner, Gracie Gustison and Serah Schaefer took the title in 1:56.83 and the sprint medley team of Boysen, Massner, Gustison and Schaefer in 1:59.28.

The Columbus girls were sixth of seven teams with 48 points scored. Columbus had one event championship on the night with Michelle Diaz winning the shot put on a throw of 34 feet. Other top finishes included the 4×400 team of Emma Milder, Alexa Alcala, Victoria Howell and Olivia Carrier were runners-up while Olivia Carrier in the 100, Dakota Storm in the 800 and Libby White in the discus were all third.

The Hillcrest girls were seventh of seven teams with 20 points. Madeline Fox had the top finishes for the Ravens, taking third place in both the 100 and 400 hurdles.
