Almost three months since a Washington home explosion killed one adult and injured a minor, a neighboring residence has been demolished.

DeLong Construction was hired to tear down the house this week that resided directly east of where the home explosion occurred in early January. Project Manager and Washington Fire Chief Brendan DeLong says that the insurance provider of the property owner deemed the residence at 1120 East Washington Street to be inhabitable. The remains of the house at 1114 East Washington Street still sit as DeLong explains that the investigation into the cause of the early morning explosion remains ongoing, “We met in February for a joint inspection and due to the weather conditions we had to postpone it to April. And actually there’s another joint inspection scheduled for April 8th, and after that is finished hopefully within the next week or two after that we’ll be able to release some more details after that, we hope.”

DeLong says the fire department is being assisted in the inspection by the property owner’s insurance provider, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and a representative of the city.
