Iowa renters and homeowners impacted by COVID-19 can apply for two assistance programs as of this week.
Governor Kim Reynolds recently announced the launch of the Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program and the Iowa Homeowner Foreclosure Prevention Program. The rent and utility assistance program will provide those eligible with rent and/or utility assistance for a total of up to 12 months. The State of Iowa was awarded $195 million for the program through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, which was passed by Congress late last year and is administered by the Department of Treasury. The foreclosure prevention program is reopened to provide eligible homeowners at imminent risk of foreclosure with mortgage assistance for up to four months with a maximum given amount per household of $3,600. The program is provided through federal CARES Act funds, and will be available until funds are exhausted or a new federal program is launched.
