A Washington business is chugging to a new location on the downtown square this summer.
Boxcar Treasures antique store located at 307 East 5th Street is moving to the former YMCA space at 110 South Iowa Avenue this July. The store opened its original location in December of 2016, and since then has opened a second and third location in Ainsworth and Kalona. Co-owner Carol Riggan is excited to have the store near the downtown foot traffic and to be able to take part in events with other businesses, “We are ecstatic to get up on the square because we have the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street [Washington]. Not only are we ecstatic, I think that the surrounding business owners around the square are excited about us because we do draw a lot of people in. And so the parking is excellent, the vision of a downtown front store face, so we’re really excited to be a part of downtown historical.”
Riggan and co-owner Jodie Schimke have already begun moving inventory to the new space, and anticipate closing their Washington location for just a couple days in late June as they prepare for their reopening. Their hours will continue as 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours on Thursday evenings during the farmers market season and as other downtown events come up.
