It’s the official kickoff to the spring golf season tonight in Kalona when the Hillcrest Academy Ravens host the Highland Huskies in a Southeast Iowa Superconference boy/girl dual. The Hillcrest boys come in with three members on the team, all with experience at the varsity level having played in 2019. London Schrock is back for his senior season after sporting a 48 average per nine holes two years ago. Two juniors also return in Owen Swartzendruber with a 51 career average and Noah Miller at 56.
The Highland boys list eight juniors and seniors as team members with three players having previous varsity experience. Junior Tanner Forbes has the best returning average shooting a 58 per nine holes as a freshman. Also returning with experience are seniors Jadon Schmid with a 163 average per 18 holes and senior Thomas Rittenmayer with a 167 average per 18 holes
The Hillcrest girls have one player this year with senior Kennedy Roth. She was a member of the Raven team as a freshman where she posted an 80 average per nine holes.
The Highland girls have eight girls on this year’s team, all juniors and seniors, and five with previous playing experience. The Huskies are led by senior Charlie Aicher and her 54 average, followed by senior Kayla Cerny at 57, senior Shantall Avandano at 66, junior Joy Castaneda at 67, and junior Carson Mellinger at 73. Action gets underway at 4p.m. and continues into the evening at the Kalona Golf Course.
