The Mid-Prairie boys and girls soccer teams travel to Monticello tonight for dates on the pitch with the Panthers. The Mid-Prairie boys are 1-0 on the season after a 3-0 shut out win over Mediapolis Tuesday in which Zeus Fugate scored twice and Owen Trimpe once in the victory while Keaton Graber turned in a clean sheet in goal with four saves.
This is the season opener for the Monticello boys. The Panthers were 5-10 in 2019. They do not have a player on the roster who has scored a varsity goal but do return keeper Alex Fagan for his senior year. As a sophomore he played 980 minutes, making 172 saves, working out to an 83.5% save percentage. Mid-Prairie is 7-0 all-time against Monticello, including a 4-3 win over the Panthers in 2019.
The Mid-Prairie girls are 0-1 on the season after a 6-1 loss to the Iowa City Liberty Lightning to begin the year. The Hawks trailed 5-0 at the half and got a second half penalty kick goal from Kaitlin Martin to get on the board. Emily Swartzentruber led the Golden Hawk defense with 11 saves in goal.
The Monticello girls are starting their season tonight. In 2019, they finished with a 2-10 overall mark. The Panthers struggled offensively, scoring just five goals in 12 matches and they return just one player, junior Gracie Tuel who has a varsity goal to her credit. Defensively, the Panthers will turn to senior Hannah Ahlrichs who finished her sophomore year logging 330 minutes in goal, making 98 saves and allowing 17 goals, working out to an 85% save percentage. Mid-Prairie is 8-1 all-time against Monticello including a 6-1 win in 2019. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. with the girls match and the boys to follow at Monticello High School.
