Plenty of track teams across Southeast Iowa congregated to Case Field last night for the annual Demon Relays and Washington showed out in front of the home crowd.

The Demon boys placed third out of 10 teams with 128 points while Iowa City Liberty took home the team title with 147. Seven events belonged to the Demons with three relays taking the top spot and four different individuals enjoying gold. Elijah Morris ran away with the 400m crown (50.95), Lance Sobaski in the 3200m (9:55), Kael Adam in the discus (137’9’’), and Ethan Patterson in the high jump (5’10’’). First place relays included the 4x100m relay of Spencer Sotelo, Wyatt Stout, Jacob Miller, and Patterson (45.36), the 4x200m relay of Sam Ackerman, Reece Mayer, Stout, and Aidan Ulin (1:37), and the 4x400m of Patterson, Morris, Cameron Vongpanya, and Sobaski (3:34). Five other Demon events cracked the top three. Mid-Prairie also competed and placed sixth with 40 points. Cain Brown led the team with a second place finish in the long jump (19’5’’), 4x100m relay second (46.16), and Kaden Meader fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:05). Columbus Community was next in line finishing seventh as a team with 37 points. Kaden Amigon placed fourth in the 200m (24.34), Mason Hodges fourth in the discus (132’9’’), and Isaac Acosta fifth in the 1600m (4:57). WACO recorded 17 points for ninth place and Braden Spain took fifth in the high jump (5’4’’). Highland was 10th with 16 points and Connor Grinstead recorded the third fastest time in the 200m (24.11). 

The Washington girls had the best area finish in seventh with 46 points while Iowa City Liberty made it a clean sweep with 160. The Demons found some success in relays with the 4x400m in third (4:44), distance medley third (4:50), 4x100m fourth (55.38), and the 4x800m fourth (12:00). Grace Voss was sixth in the 800m (2:45) and high jump (4’4’’), while Liaden Fillinger placed sixth in the 400m hurdles (1:19). Highland placed 11th out of 13 with 22 points. The 4x200m relay was third (1:55), Taylor Sublette sixth in the 400m (1:10), and Sarah Burton sixth in the long jump (15’7’’). WACO was 12th with 17 points and Columbus 13th with four points. The Warriors’ shuttle hurdle relay placed fourth (1:19) and the Wildcats’ Michelle Diaz was fifth in the shot put (31’7.5’’).
