A Mount Pleasant man has been arrested on at least 10 drug-related charges after initially being pulled over for a traffic violation earlier this week.
A traffic stop was conducted for 36-year-old Zackary Daniel Kirkbride for a non-functioning brake light near the intersection of 265th Street and Iowa Avenue at 5:13 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. After an investigation, deputies discovered Kirkbride was in possession of over five grams of methamphetamine, over eight grams of psilocybin mushrooms, liquid T.H.C., drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.
As result of the traffic stop, and ongoing narcotics intelligence, a search warrant was obtained and executed at Kirkbride’s residence. There investigators found quantity amounts of methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, liquid T.H.C., heroin, and drug paraphernalia. Another firearm was also located and seized.
With the evidence from both investigations, Kirkbride was charged with two counts of a controlled substance violation-methamphetamine, a class B felony; one count of controlled substance violation-heroin and one count of controlled substance violation- psilocybin, both class C felonies; plus one count of controlled substance violation-marijuana, two counts of dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by domestic abuse offender, and three counts of drug tax stamp violations, all class D felonies. Kirkbride was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of violation of a no contact order, all simple misdemeanors. He was also cited for failing to provide financial liability and a written warning for the non-functioning brake light.
The Iowa State Patrol and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force assisted in the investigation. After his initial court appearance, Kirkbride was held in jail on a $300,000 bond. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
