Senator Joni Ernst (R) commented on a series of executive actions taken by President Joe Biden (D) Thursday in the wake of recent mass shootings in Colorado and Georgia.

Ernst held a law enforcement roundtable during her 99 county tour in the city of Washington Thursday, and told KCII she didn’t have the opportunity yet to delve into Biden’s announcement which includes an effort to reduce the spread of “ghost guns” that don’t have traceable serial numbers, “What I want to make sure is that the president through executive order is not taking away second amendment rights from law-abiding citizens and that’s what we continue to focus on is law abiding citizens should be able to maintain their rights.”

Among other actions, Biden ordered the Justice Department to issue a proposed rule to make clear that when a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle, that gun will be subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act. The Justice Department is also ordered to publish model “red flag” legislation for states that would allow family members or law enforcement to petition for a court order temporarily barring people in crisis from accessing firearms if they present a danger to themselves or others.
