Over 500 runners from around 15 states are expected to converge in the city of Washington Saturday for the annual Kewash Trail Half Marathon.

Race Director Teri Hartzler says this year’s 5K/10K/Half Marathon event is expected to be their biggest yet, with proceeds going to the Washington High School baseball, track, and cross country teams, YMCA of Washington County, and local Girls on the Run and Let Me Run programs. Hartzler shares how this year’s event will compare to last year’s which was postponed to August in light of the pandemic, “Last year we decided to do different start times for the races. This year we are going to start everyone at the same time but we’ll have different time blocks going to separate the crowd a little bit more, and we will also spread out the start line area as well.”

The race begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, with spectators encouraged to come cheer on the runners, and grilled food being sold to benefit the YMCA’s youth programming. The KCII Big Red Radio will be providing the soundtrack, broadcasting live from 7:30-11 a.m.
