The City of Washington is holding its spring cleanup this Saturday.

Residents are asked to bring identification or a copy of their utility bill and to stay in their vehicle. General junk will be accepted, with small loose materials put in cardboard boxes as bags will not be accepted. Furniture items like couches, mattresses, box springs, and recliners will be accepted for free, and lawn mowers and equipment must be gas and oil free for disposal. Electronics are free, excluding old tube televisions and computer monitors for $15.

Items not accepted include household garbage and hazardous waste, tires and waste oil, construction materials, latex paint, concrete, brick, and rock. Tickets for appliances and TVs can be purchased at city hall, or paid in cash at the cleanup site. Items will be accepted from 7-11 a.m. at the Yard Waste Center/Waste Water Treatment Plant (1065 West Buchanan Street). Special pickups of appliances and TVs can be arranged for an additional $5 per item, and must be registered with city hall by Thursday.
