It’s a River Valley Conference doubleheader Tuesday night when the Tipton boys and girls soccer teams visit Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawk boys come into the match with an overall record of 2-0 after wins over Monticello and Mediapolis by a combined 10-1 score. On the year the Hawks are led by a quartet with two goals, Jack Pennington, Gunnar Gingerich, Zeus Fugate and Owen Trimpe. Ethan Trimpe has the team lead with four assists while Keaton Graber has saved four of five shots opponents have had on goal in 140 minutes of game action.

This is Tipton’s first season with varsity soccer and they are struggling through some growing pains, starting the year 0-2 after being outscored by Cascade and West Liberty 17-1 in two matches. For the season, the Tigers are led by Preston Daedlow with their lone goal and keeper Gary Maiers with 100 minutes of time giving up 10 goals and making nine saves.

The Mid-Prairie girls are 1-1 on the year, splitting their first two matches with a loss to Iowa City Liberty and a mercy rule win at Monticello last time out. For the season the Hawks are led by Esther Hughes with four goals. Kaitlin Martin has a pair of assists so far this season and Emily Swartzentruber has spent 80 minutes in goal, stopping 12 of 18 shots she’s faced. The Tipton girls are also in their first varsity season in program history, starting a surprising 2-0 with a 2-0 win over Mediapolis and a 3-1 win against West Liberty. The Tigers are led by Hailey Stewart and McKenna Gade each with two goals, Gade and Carly Langenburg each have an assist, in goal, Keira Swallom has stopped 17 of 18 shots.

These matches will both be played on the campus of Hillcrest Academy Tuesday, beginning with the girls game at 5p.m. and the boys to follow.
