Plenty of area track teams participated in Lone Tree on Monday and a few area teams had a top three finish.
The Highland girls had the top area finish in second out of eight teams with 107 points while Wapello won with 120. Five Huskie events claimed the top spot including Sarah Burton in the 100m dash (13.93) and long jump (16’6.25’’), Taylor Sublette in the 800m (2:58), the 4x200m relay (1:55), and 4x800m relay (12:39). WACO tallied 92 points to claim fourth place. The Warriors got plenty of production in the 100m hurdles with Molly McLaughlin placing first (17.70) and Zoey Dennler right behind in second (18.42). The shuttle hurdle relay bested the whole field by six seconds with a time of 1:19. Columbus Community, Lone Tree, and Hillcrest Academy rounded out the team standings with 29, 21, and 12 points, respectively. Throwers helped the Wildcats with Michelle Diaz winning the shot put (34’0’’) and Libby White had the best heave in the discus (88’7’’). Lone Tree’s Kasey Chown was second in the shot put (4’6’’) and the Ravens’ Madeline Fox placed first in the 3000m run (13:59).
On the boys’ side, Columbus placed third with 101 points and Lisbon won it all with 162. The Wildcats did not have a champion, but had a plethora of runner-up events including Kaden Amigon in the 400m (56.06), Isaac Acosta in the one mile (4:50), Freddy Vergara in the two mile (10:48), the 4x800m relay (9:32), and Mason Hodges in the discus (132’9’’). Lone Tree nabbed fourth in the team standings with 60 points, WACO was next in line with 46, Keota sixth with 41, Highland seventh with 34, and Hillcrest Academy eighth with 16. Three Lion relays placed second including the 4x200m (1:43), 4x400m (3:59), and the shuttle hurdle (1:14). WACO’s Braden Spain reigned supreme in the high jump (5’8’’) and the 4x100m was second (48.33). Keota’s Wyatt Sieren won the 400m (53.78) and Brady Duwa was second in the long jump (18’8’’). The Huskies’ Connor Grinstead took gold in the 100m (12.11) and the Ravens’ Aaron Hershberger was second in the 110m hurdles (16.80) and 400m hurdles (1:01).
