The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and the Kalona Golf Course hosted some of the best high school players on the links with the 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational Tuesday.
The Washington Demons posted the highest area team finish, taking second with their score of 368. West Branch won the team title with a score of 323. Demon freshman Roman Roth won the individual tournament title with his score of 80, including a 39 on the front nine. A four-way tie for the title was broken by card back. After the meet, Roth spoke with KCII sports about his round. “Main focus today was to go in and try to make good contact with the ball and hit it straight. On my front nine, number seven was an important hole, I curved my drive around the trees and got within about 100 yards. On the back nine, number two had the wind in our face but I was able to hit a good shot.”
Other scores for the Demons included Grant Sobaski and Teague Mayer 94, Isaac Vetter 100, Luke Beenblossom 103 and John Prohaska 109.
Mid-Prairie took fifth of 10 teams at their home invite with a score of 401. The Hawks were led by Dominic McCain and his sixth place individual finish, shooting a round of 84. Other scores for the Golden Hawks included Aiden Bush 100, Drew Schlabaugh 103, Warren Scarff 114 and Ben Mattes and Ian Schmidt 115.
Highland was 10th of 10 teams with their score of 553. The Huskies were led by a 118 from Payton Yeggy. Other Highland scores included Brock Schaedler 125, Isaac Black 146 and Jaden Schmidt 164.
