The Washington and Winfield-Mt. Union track teams split up last night for their first meet of the week with the girls traveling to Fort Madison and the boys to Wapello.
The Washington girls ran in the Timm Lamb Pen City Relays and placed sixth in the A division with 63 points while Mount Pleasant took home the crown with 151. The best event finish came from the 4x400m relay team in second and this team consisted of Taylor Bartholomew, Abby Kleese, Grace Voss, and Kourtney Moeller (4:35). The 4x800m relay of Kleese, Iris Peterson, Cloe Telleen, and Voss also finished runner-up (11:27). Voss was third in the 800m (2:44) and Peterson fourth (2:52), Olivia Marek fourth in the 100m hurdles (17.85), Liaden Fillinger fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:21), and the 4x200m in fourth (1:59). WMU was fifth in the B division with 56 points and Cardinal had bragging rights with 143. Bradie Buffington won the shot put (31’8”), Keetyn Townsley second in the 100m hurdles (18.52), Morgan Grelk third in the 400m hurdles (1:20), and Audrie Gipple third in 400m (1:17).
In the Indian Relays the Demon boys placed sixth out of nine with 47 points and Wapello won their own meet with 130. Micah Rees had a strong showing in the 1600m in second (5:15) and the other runner-up event belonged to the shuttle hurdle relay team of James Strabala, Tucker Graf, Kaden Bex, and Ethan Zieglowsky. (1:12). Fourth place individuals included Roy Carter in the 400m (56.72), Zieglowsky 110m hurdles (17.63), Reece Mayer in the discus (138’0’’), and Brayden Hartman in the shot put (45’10’’). Winfield-Mt. Union nabbed seventh with 43 points. Brody Barton bested the whole field in the 1600m (5:00) while Cam Buffington was third in the long jump (18’11.25’’) and Talon Newton fourth in the high jump (5’8’’).
