Two principal hires down and one to go for the Mid-Prairie School District.

The school board last week approved the hiring of Greg Jergens to become the new principal at East Elementary. Superintendent Mark Schneider says Jergens is currently a fourth grade teacher in the Iowa Valley School District and has been teaching for 21 years. He was selected from about 20 applicants to replace Robin Foster, who will be the new principal for West Elementary after Bill Poock submitted his resignation effective at the end of the school year to become Director of Teaching and Learning at the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.

In February, Middle School Principal Marc Pennington submitted his resignation effective at the end of the school year to take a position outside of education. In March, Robert Hruby was tabbed as his replacement. Hruby has been with Cedar Rapids Schools the last four years and has previously worked for Des Moines Public Schools.

The district now turns its attention to finding a replacement for high school Principal Jay Strickland, who submitted his resignation effective the end of the school year to take the same position in his hometown of Crawfordsville, Indiana. Schneider says they have received 20 applications which they’ll narrow down to five candidates with interviews scheduled to start April 26th.
