The Washington County Board of Supervisors were informed of a proposed amendment to the City of Washington’s unified commercial urban renewal plan Tuesday.

City Administrator Brent Hinson presented the amendment to the board pursuant to state code for an expansion of Bazooka-Farmstar, Inc. and to remove the YMCA property from the Urban Renewal Area. The plan would now include a project to award a grant to Bazooka-Farmstar for installation of public sewer infrastructure for an amount not exceeding $500,000. Hinson says this will be a 37,500 square foot expansion for the business, with new jobs added. The city has agreed to relocate a sewer line for this project at a cost of $230,000, for which they will use tax increment financing revenues that Bazooka-Farmstar is expected to pay with the expansion. Hinson explained that the removal of the YMCA from the area plan is more procedural, as they now need to be in the redeveloped downtown TIF area to receive new market tax credits for their next phase of expansion. No action was required from the supervisors, though they are allowed to make written recommendations concerning the plan amendment in the next week or they may attend the city’s public hearing on the item scheduled for 6 p.m. May 4th.
