The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcat boys soccer team won their third match in a row, shutting out Hillcrest Academy 2-0 in Kalona Thursday. Columbus was able to score once in each half. In the first half, Van Bawi found the back of the net off of a set piece on a Gary Molina corner kick to give Columbus a 1-0 lead going to the break. In the second half the Wildcats got an insurance goal from Oscar Alcala to make it 2-0. While the offense won the possession battle, the Wildcat defense dug in and allowed only three shots on goal during the match.
Aiden Krabill led Hillcrest in goal with three saves. With the win, Columbus improves to 5-1 while the Ravens fall to 1-2.
