The Southeast Conference has been put on notice and the Washington boys’ soccer team is the culprit. The Demons stretched their win streak to four on Thursday when they held off Mount Pleasant 3-2 to gain sole possession of second place in the league.

Zac Stout continued his offensive tear by collecting his third hat trick in four games by scoring all three goals for the Demons. Washington controlled the entire home contest leading 2-0 at half and 3-0 with eight minutes to go when the Panthers (1-6, 1-5) scored twice late to make the final tally closer. In total, the Demons had 24 shots on goal and Cole Anderson collected four saves before sitting the final 10 minutes. Isaac Gentry and Emmanuel Raymundo each recorded assists. The Demons improve to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in the SEC, and host Fort Madison (6-1, 5-0) on Monday with first place on the line.

The girls’ game also featured a 3-2 score, but the home Panthers (5-0, 4-0) stayed undefeated by squeaking past the Demons in overtime. Mount Pleasant scored the game’s first goal with three minutes left until half, but Washington answered right back when Greta Rothe picked up her seventh goal of the season for a 1-1 tie at intermission. Taylor Brinning put the Orange and Black in prime position with her first goal of the year with three minutes left in the game only to have the Panthers force overtime. Three minutes into the extra period, Mount Pleasant’s Elly Manning picked up a golden goal for the 3-2 victory. Washington drops to 3-2 overall, 2-2 in the conference, and travel to face the Bloodhounds (1-4, 1-3) on Monday.
